Knocknadobar

Watch on YouTube

First time down this neck of the woods and had a really enjoyable day out. The views are great once you get up onto the first ridge as before that you are for the most part just facing trail and looking up hill. Having said that, Castlequin Mountain and Coonanna Harbour are picturesque.

As is often the case the lower part of this was very wet, Storm Babet wouldn’t have helped much in that regard.

The video shows the hike enough without going into further detail. One thing I would say is that some sections are a lot steeper than the camera makes it look. It’s especially noticeable when crossing from the North Top back over to the ridge where the path is. Looking down into what I later found it is supposed to be a famine village was just plain steep. The ground isn’t great either so definitely better off to head back up to the cross instead of trying to take a shortcut back.

Finally, while it may not have seemed long in the video, this was a 13km hike, adding Kells Mountain and having to come back would have made it closer to 16-17 ish. Which would be walk for the middle of summer, not the shortening days at the end of October.

Right, we’re done. Here are some images from the day, I hope you enjoy them, and thanks again for reading.
