Strickeen

First hike of the year with an easy venture up Strickeen, Killarney.

Definitiely one of the easier hikes and a one i would suggest for beginners.
Parking is good, you can leave the car at Kate Kearneys Cottage and walk up the road to the start, or, if you are early enough there is room for 1 or 2 cars just at the path start proper., The path is very well defined.
The first part of the trip up is on a pathway. While its temoting to cut it short and go straight up to the summit, its worth staying on the path as once you get to the ridge the views of the Reeks are really beautiful. While they are in the distance, it is still an impressive site.

The image i got of my brother and his wife walking along the path with the mountain in the background do make it look like the moutain is close by. But in reality its a few kilometers away, they beauty of the 70-200mm lens…

Cruach Mhór in the distance

The views from the top of Strickeeen are pretty good. Even though its somewhat in the distance the views of the Reeks are impressive. There are a few nice Cairns at the top also.

The Reeks

Once back down at the start you really should walk up the road into the valley until the Wishing Bridge at least. There are great views of Purple Mountain towering over the valley.

Purple Mountain and the Wishing Bridge

A nice easy one to start the year.
