Hidden Away

Lough Avoonane is a serene lake nestled under the peaks of Gearhane and Brandon Peak, on the Dingle Peninsula, in the South West of Ireland. The road leading up to it turns off just before Cloghane Village. The road is a bit rural but ok enough to drive up the the back of the Valley, just take you time when the grass appears in the middle of the road and you’ll be fine…

I’d initially gone up to the back of the valley and was debating heading up to the Ridge behind the farm, just for a short hike, but with the few heavy showers that moved in I decided against it. The views looking across all the lakes on the valley floor, there are 4 in total, and one up a bit higher on the ridge, it looked like there was only one on the video.
They are flanked by Ballysitteragh(Scraig), Binn na mBroc and Binn Dubh and makes for an impressive vista.

Headed back down the road then to head up to Lough Avoonane. The video really does capture the walk in and the majesty of the surrounding Mountains. It really is quite something else inside there.

In the video, where I do the walking away form the camera, I noticed a dead sheep partially in the stream, the poor old bastard. It looked fresh enough unfortunately, I pulled it out a bit so if wasn’t in the direct flow and called into the farmers house on the way down to let them know, in case there was anything they needed to do with the body. You can see it in the 5th picture below.
i had a section recorded, and in the initial edit, but decided against putting it in the final video. I would have blurred out the sheep , but decided against it, and honestly, i’m glad I didn’t include it now. It wouldn’t have added anything to the video. It would have been an opportunity to click bait the video with a “You won’t believe what I found dead on the mountain” style heading and a blurry thumbnail, but that just doesn’t interest me. I’m finding that style of thumbnail makes me more inclined to not click videos for the last while now., but that’s the YouTube game that im no good at… anyway….

Here are the images from the video. when you get any bit of light at all it really does make the landscape more interesting. Hopefully a few stormy days now and loads of intermittent clouds over the coming while with help with the photography, just not too much cloud. Not sure how i’m going to make a video from those days tho.. we’ll figure it out.
