Return To - Beenoskee

Returned to Beenoskee approaching from the Annascaul Lake side.

There ius’t much really to this blog, am just adding the images more so.
Parked at Annascaul Lake where there is a small car park for a few cars after driving along a very narrow road for a bit.

We parked up and sat in the car for a while as it was raining. While its no problem to get caught in rain when already out, its a different story when sitting in a nice dry car, looking out at it and thinking, i’ll just give it five more minutes. Eventually it passed and off we headed.

There’s not much to it, follow the old road to the end of the valley and it zig zags up to the plateau. From there is was just a straight route up to Been. In the East West maps blog the writer says that locally the mountain is called Been, that the “oskee” is just a map name, so i’ll go with Been from here on. I think there are lots of places called Been in the country and to my understanding Been just means peak or mountain. Presuambly locals would have just called the big mountain behind their house or that they farmed on the Peak/Mountain. I could be wrong here, but it makes sense to me, so make of that what you will.

We’d intended on heading to strdbally first then working our way back to Been but the weather just looked a bit to clouded in, so we just headed straight to Been, Stradbally can wait for another day.

We didn’t stay too long at the top, it was just too cold. A quick bite to eat and we worked our way down, we headed over to give a look at Macha na Bó which is always amazing to see. It was incredibly wet heading over there, it’s relatively flat and boggy. I imagine after a dry spell it might be a lot better, we’ll just have to find out in the summer :D

The waterfalls were in full flow and it was a really pleasant walk out the valley and back to the lake.
I do really enjoy this area..

Thanks for calling

Ed.
